Katy (Merchandiser)

Tell us about your background and experience?

Studied Cellular and Molecular Biology at Newcastle University before starting my career in retail working for Arcadia at BHS head office, where I spent 18 months. I then went on to work at Debenhams head office for 2 years as an Assistant Merchandiser, before coming to Stevensons as a Merchandiser.

What are the most challenging/rewarding aspects of your job role?

The most rewarding part of my job is being able to contribute to the excellent customer service offered by Stevensons.

What activities do you pursue outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy socialising and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy keeping fit and healthy eating.

Most interesting fact about yourself?

I was born without a sternum (breast bone), I was rushed to Great Ormond Street hospital when I was born, and the consultants there had not seen anything like it before, and had only ever read about my condition in textbooks!

Best School memory?

Winning a national competition as part of the cast of a school production of a Midsummer Night’s Dream when I was 14.

Favourite/worst school dinner?

My favourite school dinners were the ones on hot sunny days in the summer term when we would get burger and chips in a takeaway box to eat outside on the playing field.

Favourite School uniform that Stevensons sell and why?

Hemel Hempstead School, as this is my old school uniform.

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

Determined, creative and committed, I strive to be the best I can be at whatever I do.

Matteo (Customer Services Manager)

Tell us about your background and experience?

I was born in Sardinia, Italy, and completed my studies in the major city, Cagliari, in 2003. After completing my university degree I moved to Ireland, living in Galway for nearly a year. I enjoyed my experience and the lovely Irish weather! I moved to U.K. in 2005 and lived in London until 2012, before moving to St Albans.

I have always worked in the customer services industry, cutting across different sectors: leisure and travel, communication, luxury retail and banking.

Most interesting fact about yourself?

I used to play in a punk rock band when I was a teenager (but nothing serious, though)

Best School memory?

Our trip in the last year to Florence.

Favourite/worst school dinner?

Unfortunately, in Italy, we did not have any school kitchen, so just Paninis or lunch pack. Personally, I always filled up on pizzas, being a good Italian.

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

I’m a calm and supportive person, who likes to think and organise things - a sort of philosopher.
