"Our Schoolwear business in the surrounding area is really taking off, with more school partners joining in 2020. So, while we are greatly saddened not to be able to continue to offer fashionwear, it’s fantastic that we will be able to keep the store itself open."
- John Stevenson, Joint CEO, Stevensons
Stevensons bought the Epsom store in April 2017 and subsequently invested over £100k refurbishing and upgrading the fabric of the building and the inadequate systems of the failing retailer. It also significantly updated the range of out-dated men’s and women’s fashion brands offered in the store, to appeal to a wider range of customers, with a slightly younger profile.
The financial investment in the store has really paid off, with a significant increase in the number of schools and clubs in the wider area that have signed up to partner with Stevensons Uniform Outfitters. To make space for the numerous additional ranges of uniform and sportwear the store will be providing , it will cease to sell Men’s and Women’s Fashion early in the new year.
An ‘Up to 70% off Closing Down Sale’ in January will clear out all of the remaining Men’s and Women’s fashion stock.
The store will remain open following the end of the ‘fashion’ sale, as the footage given over to School Uniform and Sportswear will be moved to the more accessible ground and first floors and the sports equipment section is extended to include a greater range of sports equipment.
Additional staff are being recruited to cope with the number of new school partners which have been signed up and the expanded sports department. (See https://www.stevensons.co.uk/careers/)
Following the closure of the Fashion sections the store itself will be renamed ‘Stevensons School Uniform Outfitters’, to better reflect the retail offer.
